This is so sad and disgusting. All the kid was doing was walking home after buying some candy and a drink. This Zimmerman guy clearly has mental/racism issues.

Just got done listening to the 911 call Zimmerman made leading up to the shooting. I think he planned on killing Martin from the get-go by implying the kid was putting his hand in his waistband. Who knew that just walking in the rain made you a suspicious person. This guy is walking in the rain, something isn't right with him.

Then the Zimmerman douche starts getting even more paranoid when the kid turns and starts looking at him. Of course he's going to look at you, you're following him and he has no idea who you are.

I think(am hoping) the "they always get away" comment comes back to bite him in his ass. He said it in a tone as if to say, "not this time!".

The 911 call by a neighboor where you hear Trayvon screaming in the background and a shot goes off and the screaming stops made me want to throw up.

This guy needs to go to jail for the rest of his life.

As her young man dies,
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin',
Another little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries

I'm not saying their is or isn't racism involved in this but I'd like to get the whole story before making a call on that.

I wonder how many black teenagers could shoot an old white male and claim self defense, then get away with it.

The Sanford police Dept needs to be investigated too. They completely botched this.

For what it's worth, having heard the tape, I don't think Zimmerman says "f***ing coons." it sounds like he said "punks."

The man is clearly wrong in the head.

I think where it divides between prison and a psych ward is really whether or not this crime was racially driven. The media sensationalism certainly leads us to believe that it is. That being said, it's not full on sensationalism considering something like that is quite believable. I dunno if he's a loonie or a racist loonie, but he ain't right in the head.

I think he can be both a crazy person and a racist. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive in any way.

In fact, if he was truly as paranoid of the presence of black males as his purported history seems to indicate, it could certainly indicate a disconnect from reality.

I don't think the possibility that he is mentally ill should be discounted if the killing was racially motivated.

Well that's a different situation. You've got the mentally ill person who is a racist because he's mentally ill and you've got the racist person who is mentally ill.

That's where the law can examine and decide.

Witness: Martin attacked Zimmerman

Updated: Friday, 23 Mar 2012, 6:19 PM EDT
Published : Friday, 23 Mar 2012, 5:47 PM EDT

ORLANDO - A witness we haven't heard from before paints a much different picture than we've seen so far of what happened the night 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed.
The night of that shooting, police say there was a witness who saw it all.
Our sister station, FOX 35 in Orlando, has spoken to that witness.
What Sanford Police investigators have in the folder, they put together on the killing of Trayvon Martin few know about.
The file now sits in the hands of the state attorney. Now that file is just weeks away from being opened to a grand jury.
It shows more now about why police believed that night that George Zimmerman shouldn't have gone to jail.
Zimmerman called 911 and told dispatchers he was following a teen. The dispatcher told Zimmerman not to.
And from that moment to the shooting, details are few.
But one man's testimony could be key for the police.
"The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: 'help, help…and I told him to stop and I was calling 911," he said.
Trayvon Martin was in a hoodie; Zimmerman was in red.
The witness only wanted to be identified as "John," and didn't not want to be shown on camera.
His statements to police were instrumental, because police backed up Zimmerman's claims, saying those screams on the 911 call are those of Zimmerman.
"When I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point," John said.
Zimmerman says the shooting was self defense. According to information released on the Sanford city website, Zimmerman said he was going back to his SUV when he was attacked by the teen.
Sanford police say Zimmerman was bloody in his face and head, and the back of his shirt was wet and had grass stains, indicating a struggle took place before the shooting.

This is yet another attempt by the media to dirve a wedge between races. And of course Sharpton can't hold his tongue...

This is definitely about media bias. Not about a guy who followed a kid despite police telling him to back off, then shooting the kid when the kid had the nerve to tell him to f*** off. White people should be able follow and harass black kids and shoot them if they get mad. The nerve of the media.

The point is that you're being ignorant if you're believing what the media is telling you without questioning it.

The point is to let the law take its course.

Am I saying the media made this one up? No. Is it possible? It's certainly possible that the media is currently ruining the life of Zimmerman and making him a marked man for their own benefit. Why the f*** would that shock you?

Don't make assumptions on something you have no idea about. Stop and think about it for yourself. You were not there. You have no idea what happened. The only way you're creating an opinion on the matter is purely based off of what you're being told.

While I do think that we certainly are not at justice to make claims saying that Tayvon did anything wrong, it is fair to be skeptical of the message being sent. Let the law take it's course. Between the three branches of government here, despite continuous criticism, I have the most faith in the judicial system.

Dr. B,

The issue is that, at this point the law has taken it's course. That is what the current controversy is mostly about.

I'm not in anyway denying what Zimmerman or Martin did. We have no clue what happened. As Dr. B said, all you have to go on is what the media is telling you. To believe them is pretty ignorant.
This could have been a hate crime, or it could have been just a sick individual...we dont know. The media is trying to stir up race riots though. This media uprising never occurs when a black man kills a white man. The purpose of this whole thing is to create unrest between the races.

Umm, people do realize that police dont give away their entire case files to the media on a whim, right? If the police did wrong, I expect a investigation. That's not really directed to the majority of the people here as most have a good amount of common sense.

The media is doing what they do best now. Stir the pot. That's all I will comment on.

This is kind of a false equivalency, though.

This isn't just "white man kills black man."

Dr. B,

Considering the current state of the case, it's not as set in stone as one might like to believe.

The law took it's course. It looks like it has to take another course at this point. Most of the controversy can very well be fabricated though, that's the point. The law could've done the right thing thing.

Put it this way: somebody is wrong. Either the media is bullshitting us and stirring the pot as CC said, or the law did not do what it was supposed to do. Do either of those situations shock you? In my opinion, one is not anymore likely than the other.

And the law has not fully done it's course. There's still an investigation going on.
