Yankees not starting him for the 2nd straight game. It seems like AROD might be leaving the Yankees after this season. Do you see him coming to Miami in 2013 to fill a position of need in 3B? AROD was worse than Hanley last season, but better the season before. Do you think he can give us solid production until Cox is ready?

^^^ I know this isn't 2008 anymore, but maybe he stills that star power to maybe draw crowds ala Pujols. Remember the Marlins offered Pujols a ridiculous contract. It might be a pathetic attempt to fill more seats, but it's maybe worth it at this point, especially with the Marlins having nothing exciting to look forward to in the future other than Stanton and a few prospects may or may not pan out.

The only way this works is if NY is willing to eat a TON of his contract.

Which will not happen no matter how much Yankees fans hate him right now.

What year was A-Rod worse than Ramirez? It wasn't this season. It wasn't last season. In fact, it was never, not in any meaningful way anyhow. But, at 37 years old, the NYY better be eating a pile of his contract or the Marlins need to give them pretty much nothing.

if they pay a huge portion of his contract and take on heath bell, deal. He would be a great fit in the lineup in every way except for his contract.

Yeah not gonna happen unless they eat up a majority of his salary, plus we'd have to thrown in something decent.

I'm pretty sure we'd have to pay all of his contract just because we throw in Bell.

Bell for A-Rod + $9m per season.

Edit: I would also like my choice of supercar and Vivid girl each year of the contract.

I am going to proceed in behalf of the Marlins and give the Yankees Nolasco and Bell for Arod. Even salary trade (20M), Yankees throw in some mone to offset 2nd and 3rd year of remaining contract (negotiable). Win-win situation.

A-Rod is signed thru 2017 and is owed $114 million.

Sucks that a guy who's declining so badly is going to be owed over a hundy mill.
Then again, we may be saying the same about Albert in about 5-6 years.

If we don't trade for A-Rod he'll be the one that got away.

No matter how good a player is in his prime, I'd always be reluctant to offer him anything close to $20 million per season after the age of 35. The Marlins dodged a huge bullet with Pujols.

Yikes, that kind of contract would obliterate any other franchise, the Yankees will laugh all the way to the bank.

I agree.
However, if we signed him and maybe frontloaded the contract ... but then again, that's not really how the Marlins [or anyone else really] do business.

Ok never mind. He has five years, not three, left on his contract. The Marlins could have benefitted from a hometown guy chasing homerun records.

I'd be reluctant. The only thing that would make me be okay with it would be to know that with that contract, your team can have a run multiple World Series early in it (and win some..).

I think that for the Yankees, it was okay and it turned out okay.

I don't think a contract like that would benefit the Marlins, I agree. Pujols = bullet dodged.

The only thing I think is sad about A-Rod right now is that he's falling off the table for a chance at taking that #1 spot from Barry Bonds.

How is there any guarantee that a team would have multiple World Series runs with a bad contract like that? The Angels had the 4th highest payroll in MLB this season with the newly signed Pujols and did not even make the playoffs.

The Yankees are also arguably in a different situation than most teams, too. Their revenue stream is probably unmatched so they are able to absorb these mistakes in a way that any other team cannot.

Pavano, for instance. They hardly noticed the 40 million they wasted on 145 innings from him.

Where else could you get paid $17,600 per pitch, have no net effect (9 total wins in 4 years) on the team and they pat you on the back and wish you well in your future endeavors as you leave -- as they scratch their heads and wonder who the hell you are because they've already forgotten your name?
