With the A-Rod rumors quieted, kick around some ideas? I keep hearing that Zack Cox will "get a look" in spring training but he's not ready and will almost certainly start in AA Jax. He's going to need a good season at AA or AAA first.

So I can't fathom what they could do in FA that will make anyone happy. Matt Dominguez is now gone. They're certainly not going to break the bank again and go after David Wright, and what's left after that is pretty weak. Reynolds? Youk? Wigginton? Rolen? Inge? Polanco? Ugh. You've either got guys who can't hit or can't field.

Sticking with an in-house option has it's own problems. Bonifacio would presumably be at 2B, that leaves only Dobbs and Solano as options, both of whom are better suited for bench roles. I don't particularly like the idea going into the season with Solano. On the other hand, based on what's out there I don't know that overpaying for what may be only marginally better production will make me feel any better. If money's a concern, perhaps getting 3B on the cheap would allow them to focus on a top CF. Just a thought.

There is the outside possibility of bringing someone in via trade since our minor league system looks better, but they certainly don't want to move the two top names and since the rest of the better prospects are still generally at the lower levels I doubt it brings back anyone better than Cox at this point.

Why can't we let Coghlan play second and have Bonifacio play third, after all that is Coghlan natural position.

Wright's option is getting picked up anyhow.

There is no 3B option, so expect some kind of sucktastic band-aid.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cox.
Gorkys was starting for a month or two for f***s sake

I'm thinking Solano 2B, Bonifacio CF, and Dobbs 3B to start the season. hopefully Youk to man 1B

Has Ruggiano ever played 3b? If Cox isn't ready he'll probably start the year in NOLA, he was in AAA at the time of the trade. I certainly wasn't excited about having Boni at 3b the first time around, and as previously stated Dobbs is better off not playing everyday so no real in house solutions abound. Even more scary the list of potential 3b's on the FA market. This could be a real crap shoot!

Because OF are a dime a dozen and there are no 3b options at all.

Why do people keep mentioning Ruggiano at 3B? It's been said on this board since the season was going on. Is it some sort of joke?

He played 3B in the Minors,

and yes, you aren't part of the joke.

I've said it since before he signed a MINOR league deal with the Yankees, but...

Eric Chavez.

C: Brantley
1B: Morrison
2B: Bonifacio
SS: Reyes
3B: Chavez
LF: Ruggiano
CF: Free agent signing or who gives a crap until Yelich is ready
RF: Stanton

Team I can at least mildly say I could watch.

Solano hit .295 last year with 2 E in 488.2 innings at 2B. you gotta stick him back there (and Bonifacio in CF).

Going into ST, and without them bringing in a speedy CFer, I would imagine this is the plan. I have no doubt Solano is the real deal. I liked him last March and he did nothing in the regular season to temper those thoughts. By cutting payroll I don't see how they will be bringing in someone else to play CF. Most of our $$$ that is already spent on next season is going for pitching. Seeing they seem to still be hot on pitching, I can't really see them trading one of those guys. Reyes dosen't appear to be going anywhere. Buck, maybe, but I don't think Hayes will be back and Buck seems to be the guy to do some tutoring.
