I don't even think an explanation is necessary. There is only so much incompetence, outright insulting your fans that one person can take before you realize that you're letting someone play you for a fool if you don't turn your back on them. It takes a lot to cause you to turn your back on a franchise that you literally grew up with as they grew into being (something you are fortunate to be able to experience and can never replace) but there's no doubt we've reached the point where sentimentality for the past won't get me through the joke that is the present. If my wife cheated on me repeatedly I wouldn't stay with her either, regardless of how much I liked her originally or how much the memories of our early days meant.
This really isn't gonna be that big of a step as it may seem. I found it incredibly easy when I was working through most of the games anyway to not tune in for the last 20 minutes of the Marlins losing last year. The teal team that seemed like a perennial underdog in an oversized but colorful football stadium wasn't there anymore, instead there was a team with ugly, garish orange and black uniforms that lacked the same excuses for not being good but managed to have even worse results. I will always root for a couple select Marlin players, as I've always done, but now they're mostly Detroit Tigers. I'm not really turning my back on the Marlins in this moment as much as I am realizing that I turned my back after the beginning of last year and with the way things are going, I won't be turning back around.
I can't say that I won't even be back. I would probably find it hard to resist rooting for a playoff-bound Marlins team, but when the **** is that gonna happen? I don't think that's a conundrum I'll find in the foreseable future. If I'm going to pay legitimate attention to a baseball team, which I'm not sure I will, it's not going to be the Marlins. I find the Rays to be one of the best run franchises in baseball, and they are legitimately the local team in my part of Florida. The Detroit Tigers also spring train in my backyard, and they have the most talented Marlin of all time, so that's another possibility. In either case, I find more reason to pay attention to them than the Marlins.
For those rejoicing at me not being on the forums anymore, don't speak too soon. Coming here to make fun of the incompetence of the Marlins is going to be a lot more difficult to resist than the non-existant urge to support this team.
Go Stanton, and hopefully whatever team you eventually get traded to is run a lot better than this joke.

Eventually Loria too shall pass. Remain a fan ... just don't give him any of your money, and don't let him sucker you again.I don't even think an explanation is necessary.

Still a marlin fan.. just losing more and more interest in baseball. A damn shame
Losing interest in your favorite team's sport is losing interest in that team. But I have waned on baseball a lot, the economic system dictating that certain teams have it much easier to compete every single year just make it less engaging.

Just realized I do have a reason besides Stanton to not give up- Rich Waltz & Tommy Hutton.

My friend, don't be surprised if they give up too.

Well, root for Toronto then. Sigh. No longer being a fan will not change the management of the Marlins.

Actually, it's probably the only thing that will.

Exactly how I feel. This group of misfits doesn't even look like it'll be a fun band of misfits to watch.
I'm still a Marlins fan, but it's hard to root for a team that is run by the villain in every Bond movie. I'd love to see my Marlins win a championship, but I don't think I could ever muster even a half smile if I have to watch that smug grin on Loria's face as he lifts the trophy.
I just want an owner that'll be willing to open up even a tiny sliver of his wallet for more than a half season.

wasn't there some stipulation to maintain a minimum payroll in order to use the bonds to build the stadium?

I am, and will always be, a Marlins fan. I am not a fan of ownership or the FO, and therefore, I refuse to give them any of my money, but I will always root for the Marlins. I will not attend any more home games or buy any more team merchandise. THAT is the way to show your displeasure. But, the product on the field has nothing to do with our incompetent and dishonest FO. I will always root for THEM, the Players and MY team.

I am out too ... threw away all my shirts, gave my hat to my non baseball fan friend (cos he liked the colors) and will now be purchasing a tampa bay rays hat.
I am also extending invitation to opening day for the rays - tickets are on me. I might not know you and will prob only buy you a $5 ticket but when that time comes around you are more than welcomed to let me know.
sorry marlins but as long as Loria owns you I am done. You can sign Hamilton, Upton, Greinke and I will still not care, no fan should put up with this and I hope that the few remaining ones revolt against this sh*t of a franchise.

You can also never expect me to attend that awesome stadium they have, at least I got to go inside of it last year ... good luck putting people in those seats.
