Carlo Amado "Chuck" Hernandez (born November 11, 1960 in Tampa, Florida) is a coach in Major League Baseball. He has served as pitching coach for the California Angels (1993–96), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2004–05), and Detroit Tigers (2006–08). In 2009, he served as the bullpen coach for the Cleveland Indians, but was fired along with Manager Eric Wedge and the rest of the staff at the season's end. Hernandez is currently the pitching coach for the GCL Phillies.
Prior to his coaching career, he played in the New York Yankees minor league system from 1979 to 1983. He also played part of the 1983 season in the Chicago White Sox system. A broken arm that year ended his playing career.

Wow reaching back to the Dombrowski era with the hiring of Leary, he coached for several years in the minors for the Fish before moving on to the Red Sox.

Hernandez is currently the pitching coach for the GCL Phillies.

Wherever this information came from, its a little outdated, the job that he is leaving is the pitching coach for the University of South Florida

I am ok with Leary but Chuck Hernandez? It has to be the most obscure pitching coach signing ever!

MIAMI -- Chuck Hernandez has been hired as pitching coach for the Miami Marlins and new manager Mike Redmond.
The Marlins also announced the hiring of Rob Leary as bench coach Friday.
Hernandez spent the past two years as an assistant coach at the University of South Florida. He was pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers in 2006-08 and for Tampa Bay in 2004-05, and pitched in the minor leagues from 1979-83.
Leary was minor league field coordinator for the Cleveland Indians in 2012. He spent the 2010 and '11 seasons as the Red Sox's major league coaching staff assistant.

Actual Redmond's response in a text....."Super excited to have Rob Leary and Chuck Hernandez on the staff."

Percieved FO reply....."Good boy, Red. Here's another cookie."

A USF hire. Tino Martinez also has ties to USF, being a volunteer coach and USF's manager's brother-in-law. It seems to me that they're going crazy trying to build ties with Florida in general.

I wouldn't go so far as to say a mouth piece. Yes man seems alot closer to the truth. Or maybe puppet, as in someone they can control.

The only thing lacking is Samson coming out and saying, "I remember the fans saying this is what they wanted."

are you going to do this now every time Redmond's name is mentioned? It's a stupid boilerplate response to some new hires, what would you like him to say? "Well I'm kinda meh about it but whatevs, my owner won't pay for good talent here."

I'd love to hear him say that.

More important than any of these coaches visions for the team, this is the necessary question.

What is their opinion on coconut water?
