Outside of a last resort bench bat or slight depth, what would he provide? His D ain't all that great.

Seriously? Why? Dude doesn't draw any walks, can hardly hit, and he OPSed .480 last season. .480!!!

Why are you confused? He sucks. He's a great fit for Miami.

In fact, this was all a deliberate attempt to take over Florida. By having the fire sale, it ruins the Rays' chances of getting a stadium done. Now they're laying the foundation to have connections all over Florida!

I know we'll suck, but I'd rather not suck as much as possible. They're going to suck whether you like it or not. Get used to it.

He also averaged 15 HR's per season from 2009-11.
Versatile and, most importantly/realistically, cheap.
If the goal is to not suck more, he probably sucks less than Donovan Solano and Kevin Kouzmanoff. Worst-case scenario, it provides competition in Spring Training (which apparently is all they care about this year)...if he doesn't get a starting job, he could be a bench player.

Can you believe we're back to this?

222 plate appearances, small sample.

Or is that also a "small sample?"
What Raburn did was in 1/3 of a season of PAs, Solano in close to half. [Or maybe that's ABs, either way]
.480 in 222 PAs is not a "small sample," he sucked, he sucks. He's declined terribly fast over the last 4 seasons [.891 (291 PA), .814 (410), .729 (418) and the .480 (222)]. "Defensive Versatility" is something we can use Solano for with, probably, better defense.
Sure, Solano will probably have an OPS under .700 in 2013, but probably still be, overall, better than Raburn's season.

Solano had 316 PAs and OPSed .717.

So, what's the big deal in giving Raburn a shot then? Solano sucks.
If given the choice of who has more upside, it's Raburn. Solano has zero upside. No power, not patient either and not a stud defensively. Raburn has some power at least. Nothing wrong in taking a chance to see if '12 was an aberration for him.
Also, rumor is that we're probably trading Escobar if we get the right deal. Raburn is better than the great Kevin Kouzmanoff who couldn't even hit in the minors last year.
We're bad and not intending to spend money apparently. Guys like Raburn is as good as it gets. What's the alternative?

I'd rather take Solano than a 31 year old downward trending Raburn. Solano may not be a stud defensively, but he is better than Raburn, at least on the infield.
You want to talk about not patient, Raburn's career high in walks is 27 [Solano walked 21 times in his lone season, so not much different here]. Solano at least made contact at a decent rate. 58 Ks in 316 PAs compared to 53 in 222. Only 13 walks, too.
Solano, no, not good. Better than Raburn? I say yes. The only thing that Raburn has over Solano is power, but if he ain't making contact ...
