Are you really comparing Tatum to Matt Downs?  Downs has batted 377 times the last two years and he has scored 44 runs, cranked 18 homers and he has 57 RBIs.  Tatum has 21 runs scored, 1 homer and 22 RBIs in 100 career games in the majors.

Tatum sucks, but so does Downs. 

 

Every organization needs depth in the minors, especially at the C position. I just don't see a reason to complain about this particular signing when we know very well that Tatum is likely to never play a single game for the Marlins.
