Doug Lara, Marlon Byrd's personal hitting coach, told Puro Beisbol last week that the outfielder is in discussions with the Marlins. Byrd has been playing for the Tomateros de Culiacán this winter (translation via Nick Collias).

Where would he play?

New Orleans?

Why do they want to bring in a light hitting outfielder when Hernandez, Ruggiano, and Peterson are waiting for their chances.

I could totally see Polanco getting hurt in spring training and Green becoming the opening day 3B.

Loria would want him to change his first name to "Marleen" in order to attract the Hispanic demographic.

Cool. Miami. International.

The real question is what will become of the opening day roster when Stanton blows out his knee in the WBC and/or spring training.

Double post and I can't delete it. In other news, the comments on the Marlins facebook page is hilarious. Lots of bitterness unlike you guys, you guys are real fans. It doesn't matter if our team sucks. We will win more games than last year.
