According to a blog entry on the Miami Herald, Cincinatti is probably getting the all star game. Clark Spencer believed its the teams punishment for the firesale. I know most of us don't give a crap about the game itself but hosting definately has rewards. Looks like 2017 at the earliest.

Cincinnati deserves it more anyway. They've gone longer without hosting and they've had their new park longer.

Regardless of who deserves it, if it is punishment to Loria, then it is like the NCAA, punish the innocent. The city and county put up the stadium, regarldless of which taxes funds it, not Loria, and the community would showcase the stadium and S. Florida. We certainly get plenty of showcasing anyway, with the Heat, the BCS, Super Bowls and our overall glitz of celebrities, but more never hurts and we deserve it, especially because they took it away from us once as punishment for refusing to build a stadium. Now we build one and we still do not get it. The fact that we have a s..tty owner is not our fault, just our misfortune-so yes, this sucks.

I see the fans more as being collateral damage. Denying the ASG to Miami definitely punishes Loria--who is guilty.

yeah I don't know how you could see this as anything other than Selig handing out a little punishment. Unfortunately hurts the fans and city more than the owner. Hey Bud we'd like him gone too!
Pretty awful.
Not the first time they've had the game pulled out from under them either.

Really though, nobody said we were guaranteed the '15 game. If we happen to get it in, say, 2017, then it wasn't a punishment so much as just not being our turn yet. Whatever, we'll get it eventually.

At least their city has seen one, though. We've never seen one. Probably for good reason considering we were playing in a football stadium but that's not an issue anymore.

I don't think it works that way. The clock should start when the Marlins enter the league. By your logic the Marlins should have been granted the ASG in 1993 because they had to wait 60 years.

What has Cincy waited, then? Four years more than us? They had it in '88. I'd say never having one in team history and a brand new park overrules those four years.
HRD should be really fun though.

I don't see why never having one in team history should be given priority when it's been in the league for less time. On top of that, Cincy will have waited 13 years to showcase their new park, which is probably the longest of the new park wave in 2000s.

Miami doesn't deserve an All Star game until we get rid of the Sculpture in Center Field.
Miami doesn't deserve an All Star game until we get rid of the people in the owner's box.

Agreed....it's pretty clear that Selig took this away from Loria, as Samson acted like it was a done deal that they would get this ASG.

Agreed. I think we would have been stepping on their toes a bit had we gotten the game.
