RHP Sam Dyson off waivers from Toronto.
Kevin Mattison designated for assignment.
not like that, no!
pretty good minor league stats from this Dyson kid last year considering he was away from the game for a bit.
drafted in 2010, had TJ surgery in 2011.
4.6 K/9 in the minor leagues...
He has a good shot to be in our bullpen some day and that k-rate may have been a fluke... He's had TJ twice though...

Sounds a lot like Ryan Webb. Not that that's a bad thing if he can become that. I figured his GB rate was good because he's barely allowed any HR's so that's good.
he was closing at one point so he should have some good stuff though i did notice the strikeout ratio.
I wonder how well Dyson sucks ....
....
Spoiler
Damn you. I was seriously going to post this...

glad to hear he has had TJ twice. I was concerned we actually signed someone that had not been seriously injured previously
Question about Mattison, not like it matters but I'm just curious. Does this remove him from appearing in Spring Training as a non roster guy?
If DFA goes through, he accepts his assignment and isn't claimed by anyone and is outrighted, he should just be a minor league guy who's not on our 40-man roster right? So does that remove his ST invite?
Not necessarily. I mean they could I guess, but at this point I don't think he'd be any different than the other 14 or so organizational players who've been invited.
Thought so. It's probably just a wait and see thing. I'd say he gets the invite still, I mean, he wasn't DFA'd for anything wrong that he did. Room just needed to be made for Dyson.

Kevin Mattison cleared waivers and outrighted to NOLA, with a ML spring invite. 72 players now in camp.
Looks like we almost shipped ole cogs off to Boston:
Before the Overbay deal was completed, the Red Sox had a National League team offer to get them Chris Coghlan from the Marlins in a three-way trade, Peter Gammons of MLB Network reports
Not sure if serious.Thank god that didn't happen. We can't afford to lose cc.
Maybe it was Coghlan to BOS, Middlebrooks to ARI, and J. Upton to MIA?
This was a move inspired by Mike Redmond. He was Dyson's manager for part of last season at Dunedin.
