I've only posted here scarcely but I've been watching the Marlins for a long time now (since about 2006). I could go on an entire diatribe about my history as a Marlins fan, but w/e, not important. I noticed a lot of people on this board who said they were quitting being Marlins fans, jumping on the Rays wagon, which is completely asinine. The idea of switching allegiances when the goings get tough is foreign to me. All I know is the Jaguars and the Marlins (well, and Aston Villa). But at the same time, the way Loria conned the entire city on the false hope of AT LEAST being a mid-level spender only to blow it all up and become the bottom-feeders of the salary table before even an entire year had gone... even though I live in Jacksonville and didn't have to pay a single cent in taxes, as a sports fan, and more importantly, a human being and a citizen, I find it immoral to give even a penny of my money to the scumbags who run this team and, unfortunately, have no plans of selling.

 

However, like I said, I would never switch allegiances, but I've been so hurt by my club I can't go back... my undying loyalty has put me between a rock and a hard place, so much so that I've lost all interest in the game itself. I literally have no idea where Greinke and all the big name FAs signed, all the shifts in power amongst the divisions, etc. and to be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less. I've almost become antipathetic to the whole league. My love of our wonderful national past-time has eroded before my very eyes... and it really, really hurts because I know at the bottom of my heart that I still love the art of baseball, but I can't bring myself to embrace it when the Marlins I know and love are being held hostage by that f***ing scumbag and his step-son for the foreseeable future.

 

Edit: Wow, that title looks funny. I meant, "Has anyone else had their enthusiasm for baseball killed by the Marlins?"

I'm extremely excited for the season and have been counting down to pitchers and catchers reporting.  I can't wait for the games to begin.

Mr. Loria's antics have certainly dampened my enthusiasm, and so has the greed of some players, agents, and owners, but it's still a great game.

Well, MLB.tv will not be getting my money this year (Partly because what happened this offseason, partly because I'm planning to move this year and need all the extra money I can get), but otherwise, I'll be constantly checking in on Marlins scores on my cell phone when I'm not supposed to.

I'm a Florida Panthers fan. I've felt the hurt for a decade. Nothing short of moving a team can really hurt my interest, although this is mighty close.

 

The only thing that genuinely makes me lose interest is June.

I still love baseball, that will never change. But it does get tiresome seeing the kind of talent we've lost putting up triple crown numbers for someone else. If/when Stanton leaves, it'll absolutely suck; At what point do you say enough is enough? I won't tolerate another firesale and I hope Selig doesn't either. How can the club even justify it again? I guess I'm fooling myself into thinking anything will change.

 

P.S. I can't give Loria my money, I just cant come up with the rationale to hand it over to that bastard. If anything I'll just use stub hub, the prices are better anyway.

I understand Caddy's viewpoint. And I can certainly understand, as Marlins fans, that we have every right to be cynical about this team and the sport of baseball that we profess to love.  Not having any reason to believe we have any chance of contending for a playoff spot really sucks. Its tough being a fan of a team with no hope.

 

I live in Jacksonville too, and while I take a number of trips down to S, Fla each year to visit family, I doubt I'll have any great urge to trek down to Marlins Park to take in a game. From that standpoint, the front office of this team can go to you know where.

 

But I'm also taking a little different tact. Because living in Jacksonville, I've never been as interested in the young Suns, since Stanton was here, as I am this year. By all means, Caddy, you live here too, so I hope you're open to focusing whatever interest you may have on the Suns.  Virtually all of the exciting young Marlins prospects will be playing here this year.  Check the outfield, Yelich, Marisnick, Ozuna, two of the three to be starting alongside Giancarlo in a yr or two.  Fernandez, and probably sometime in the year Conley and Nicolino will be pitching here and maybe even Heaney. Dietrech will be at 2nd.  Cox at 3rd. Realmoto might be catching here too. They'll be plenty of young talent here, and I do think their play will provide good reason for optimism.

 

Its the future Marlins. I'll enjoy watching them, and at a terrific family and viewing friendly ball park, and great prices too. No reason to feel bitter here while watching these kids, Only hope for the future. Come to The Ballpark At Jacksonville and enjoy.

  the ownership had a difficult decision because ozzie guiilen and the coaching staff as well as last years team dissapointed us all..

 

   i feel sorry for mike redmond..he's excited but the fans aren't...

 

   we shouldn't compare loria with his failute in montreal..in his 2nd year here,we won our 2nd world series...and got us our ballpark..after 10 years..

    i say..let's get excited...baseball is back  .

I have talked with so many long time Marlins fans this offseason, and so many of them agree that they are finally done with this team. I feel for guys like Stanton -- completely devoid of any hope of competing until they leave via free agency or get traded. But most of all, I feel for the poor saps that have been publicly carrying the water for this joke of a franchise for year after year, only to get burned. Reminds me of the old Navajo story involving the scorpion who convinces the turtle that he won't sting the turtle as the turtle carries the scorpion across the river on his back. When the scorpion stings the turtle, causing both scorpion and turtle to descend to their deaths, the turtle asked the scorpion why he went back on his promise and doomed the pair. The scorpion shrugged his shoulders and unapologetically mused that it was "in my nature" to sting.

And we fans have been stung so so many times,

What is the point of continuing to invite those scorpions in the owners box onto our backs? SixYear, you are excited to see the young future Fish in Jax? You'd better not get too attached... That we wind up trading or losing Yelich and Fernandez isn't a matter of "if," it's a matter of when. It is one thing to go into rebuild mode, many successful teams wind up suffering through some lean years. But we are in perpetual rebuild mode. The current wave started in 2006. We weren't serious players for 7 years after Hanley and JJ and Uggla burst onto the scene. The only year we had any real hope of competing during this current cycle was 2012. Our hope lasted about what, a half-year, before Loria started launching Rebuild Mode 2.0? It should be abundantly clear to us all that "rebuild mode" had nothing whatsoever to do with the bad lease at Pro Player, or the rain delays which kept crowds away. We are constantly in "rebuild mode "because we have a bastard for an owner who wants to make as much $$$ as possible. You think he wants to win more than he wants to make $$$? Then why didn't he offer to pay a greater portion of contracts in exchange for getting either one of the Blue Jays top 2 prospects.

The franchise is doomed to be an empty husk, constantly culling best offers for what talent remains to be plucked.

i see alot game only having 15,000 or less people  were not  many buying ticket package or one game ticket on saturday . fans say enough let show owner he bad owner he dont care about fans
