Given five spots with 2 taken (Dobbs, Catcher). Pick three from the following:

Of: Kearns, Petersen, Coghlan, Hernadez    IF: Downs, Figgins, Kouzmanoff, Valaika, Mahoney, Kotchman (may start at first for Morrison).

I pick  (what I think will happen): Coghlan, Hernandez, Figgins.

Whichever ones don't start, I guess. And they'll switch it up next month.

I don't see why anyone is worried about the bench.  We're going to go into the season with 12-13 solid bench guys.  The only problem is that 8 are going to have to start.

7 of them. Stanton is no bench player.

If you aren't a Debbie Downer following this baseball team then you are simply out of touch with reality.  My nightmares could never look as bad as the situation that Marlins as an organization are in.

I couldn't agree more with Marlino.  I get being angry about what the team has done this offseason, but does EVERY thread have to turn into "woe is us...we are going to suck"??  The season is about to start and they will be playing games soon.  Can't we move on?  If they stink, they stink, but I'd like to see how it plays out.

I don't like Loria either, but at some point it has to be OK to discuss the team on the field without it turning into a discussion about how terrible the owner is.  The talk about Loria or how bad people think the team will be is just exhausting at this point.  We can all agree that we will all be better off the minute Loria sells, there is no need to keep beating that dead horse.

As for the bench...Cogs and Downs should be on the team. I'd like Figgins to make it, but he has to start hitting or he'll be cut soon.

I read a piece a few days ago about how Cogs had watched a lot of tape and figured out why he was failing at the plate and has made adjustments.

He's tearing it up, so, who knows, maybe he has figured it out and will revert to his pre-pie rookie self.

I'm not sure a .280 OBP and .572 OPS is "tearing it up"

Coghlan got mad at me and decided to have a hell of a game :)

Don't be shocked if Coghlan gets the CF gig.

Why would that happen if Ruggiano is healthy?

Ruggiano isn't being handed the job.

That's pretty dumb.  A solid spring training shouldn't be enough to hand Coghlan the starting CF position.  He's squandered too many opportunities in the past.

I'd rather he play LF instead of Pierre if the Marlins insist on starting him.

My sentiments exactly. Not giving ruggiano the job would be absurd

Ruggiano had a hot 2 months last year, and started to come back down to earth after July. He is not a sure thing himself.

He's not a sure thing, but he performed well enough over a long enough period of time to earn a spot over Coghlan who hasn't struggled in every opportunity he's been given since 2009.

Coghlan is a bad player based on his past performances, but he was once a good prospect and has performed well in the minor leagues. Maybe he could turn it around. I wouldn't mind seeing him in LF if he performs well in ST.

Ruggiano OPS'd at .833 in August. It was mid Sept went things went awry and also when he started having back issues. I would gladly take .800 OPS  with + speed and defense out of our CF at this point (something no way Cogs will do)

Probably down to Coghlan vs Kearns to go along with Gorkys as 4th/5th outfielders, at least until Silverio is healthy.

I'm just mad Figgins went 4-4 today. Darn his success.

Don't want him anywhere near our bench!
